Four day weekends are the best! I’ve:
Had lunch and drinks
Watched the new Dr Who episode
Seen Red Riding Hood and Limitless (more on these later)
Had drinks again
Been to the zoo
Bought and eaten Easter chocolate
Finished 'The Latte Rebellion' and 'A Concise Chinese to English Dictionary for Lovers' (more on those later)
Not done any of those tasks that really needed doing, like clearing out my wardrobes *sigh*
Having four days off has also given me time to finish some reviews, although there are lots more that need doing.
I feel like I’ve lost my reviewing forward motion. The books pile up and the reviews don’t get done. As we go into summer it seems so important to be outside in the sunshine if I’m not at work, or out with friends and family and the evenings are fuller than in the winter, when I’m happily hibernating inside with my laptop (I do not like this thing called rain). I’m trying to work out new reviewing spaces that mean I can do it all. I think for now I’m going to try writing in my lunch hour (as clearly that whole exercise in my lunch hour thing isn’t coming off) and will see how that goes. I’m going to try not to stress about it, but try to and make keeping up with what everyone else is doing more of a priority.
So tell me Britishers, if you had four days off what did you do? Everyone else who just had a regular weekend off, what did you get up to? Are you getting a three day work week this week?

Sounds like a lovely way to spend a long weekend! There was lots of gorgeous sunshine here in Norfolk so I spent a decent percentage of the daylight hours in the garden reading/snoozing on the lawn. And some (very) light gardening whenever I felt too guilty.
No work at all for me this week so I am half way through my "11 days for the price of 3" break. Bliss :)
That sounds wonderful - I'm so envious. I had only three days last weekend which were spent doing things to the new house, and only get 1 day this weekend. Term has started and we are obliged to work on Bank holidays that fall in term and my Sunday shifts start again this week too. Oh well intend to watch wedding on Internet and it gets me out of too much diy
.
They're good, aren't they! Last weekend we did family visiting, and I did a lot of reading and relaxing in the garden. Oh and I caught up with a dear, lovely novelist friend I hadn't seen in ages. I'm seeing her again this weekend - no other plans than that at the moment. Spontaneity sounds good.
Oh to have time off... I do have a vacation coming up in a few weeks though, so I shouldn't be complaining. Sounds like you had a lovely long weekend.
That sounds like an absolutely wonderful weekend! Three cheers for not accomplishing those more "practical" chores during your free time! We didn't get a particularly long weekend, but we spent it drinking, laughing, eating, and discussing really good (and really bad!) books as a family. Thanks so much for a wonderful update!
I'm on spring break this week but it's almost like having two weeks off. I hope you get your reading mojo back. Right now I'm struggling with reviewing also. I don't know why but I'm trying to get through it. Good luck! I would love to know what your thoughts on what you've been reading.
Peta I hope you're having a great time on such a long holiday. The weather's been mostly lovely which is always a bonus (no one wants their holiday to be gloomy do they, unless it's so cold you'd rather not be making the journey in to work). Have fun this weekend!
verity I can't believe your library is open on Bank Holiday - don't think our uni one was, except for during summer terms when everyone would have freaked out otherwise. Enjoy your Saturday off anyway, maybe you can do the outside of the house if it's nice weather.
litlove they are the best thing :) Your weekend sounds really nice, especially as you were able to catch up with a friend. That's my plan this weekend, some nice pub grub by a canal in the sun (come on sun, you can do it). Have a lovely one this weekend too.
Julie cool have a nice holiday - hope it's somewhere relaxing, or active, whichever you're looking for to make it perfect.
Vasilly 'Yeah SPRING BREAK' Hehe isn't that the traditional party season at US unis?;) I'm finding myself so distracted by the next book I want to read and the next and the next that reviews get swept out of the way...Hope your reviewing energy comes back too(but school is most important, so don't worry about it). Hope you're enjoying your time off.
I had four days off and it was wonderful. There was loafing, and reading, gardening and schoolwork and watching The King's Speech on DVD.
It sounds like a nice weekend! It's hard not to feel guilty and stressed about unreviewed books. I don't like to, but I sometimes just make myself let some of the reviews go -- it's not worth worrying about too much!
I want to know what you thought of Red Riding Hood!! Please?
PS. I'll try to visit more from now on.
Stefanie ooo The King's Speech is lovely, hope you enjoyed it and all your time off.
Dorothy yes you're right. I will try not to worry and today I moved all the books piled up for review off to new locations. We'll see what gets done.
Iris I am just finishing them up now, hopefully put them up soon when I've fixed all my sentence construction.
Oh and I've been such a non-prescence in commenting lately myself, don't worry about it I know you're around :)
